Basic IRC concepts and commands

Op, short for "Channel Operator." Ops have the ability to ban or kick patrons, change channel modes, and give ops to other patrons (or remove them). They can generally be identified in most irc clients with the "@" before their nick. Ops are also a good source for help about the channel they are in, or irc in general.

Kick means that an op ejects someone from the channel (kicks them out), usually for doing something obnoxious or offensive.

Ban means that an op ejects someone from the channel and doesn't allow them to return.
